aMerkez Biyokimya Kliniği Laboratuarı, Ankara Numune Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi, ANKARA Laboratory tests shoud be evaluated with radiologic examinations when it is not possible to make the diagnose only with clinical syymptoms. Advances in laboratory methods have led to the identification and assesment of many proteins responsible for normal hemostasis and associations between abnormalities of these proteins and venous thromboembolism (VTE). Laboratory tests may be useful in the diagnosis of venous thromboembolism or the identification of a congenital or acquired defect associated with the development of VTE. Today it is very important to be sure that the test ordered will be clinically useful for the patient’s management plan. Lifelong anticoagulation may be needed or patients and their family members may need testing before taking birth control pills or hormonal replacement therapies. Keywords: Venous thrombosis, laboratory markersTurkiye Klinikleri J Gen Surg-Special Topics 2008, 1(1):15-21
