Venous Thrombosis And Radiology
Dr. Hakan ÖZDEMİRa
aRadyoloji AD, Gazi Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, ANKARA Lower extremity venous thrombosis is a common medical condition. Clinical examination is insensitive and objective tests are required for the diagnosis. In the past venography was the most frequently used imaging modality. However recently, among the diagnostic tools Doppler ultrasonography has become the imaging modality of choice. Because of its simplicity, possibility to reevaluate the patients easily, no need to use contrast material and ionizing radiation, relatively low cost and its high sensitivity and specificity, especially in the femoropopliteal region, ultrasonography is increasingly replacing venography. Among these advantages, ultrasonography however is largely operator dependent and quality of the equipment dependent. In the recent years computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonans venography are using for the diagnosis of venous thrombosis alternatively to ultrasonography. However, these applications are mainly used for selected patients and for some researches. Keywords: Venous thrombosis; ultrasonography, doppler; phlebographyTurkiye Klinikleri J Gen Surg-Special Topics 2008, 1(1):22-28
