Conventional Treatment Of Deep Vein Thrombosis

aKalp ve Damar Cerrahisi AD, GATA, ANKARA Deep vein thrombosis and/or pulmonary embolism can be considered manifestations of the same clinical entity, venous thromboembolism. This subject is very important for both hospitalized and outpatient setting. As one of the main causes of unexplained hospital mortality, venous thromboembolism must be considered more importantly. The aims of the venous thromboembolism are prevention of postthrombotic syndrome, recurrence of venous thrombeombolis and and to prevent death from pulmonary embolism. For all of these reasons, prevention and treatment of venous thromboembolism has crucial importance. Older-aged people, pregnant and cancer patients forms a vulnerable group that needs special care. Currently with the wide usage of low molecular weight heparins, easiness of the following the warfarin treatment that helps to use the treatment more effectively and availability of new graded compression stockings that improve patient compliance provided us avoiding from the disabilities that could occur and prevention of thromboembolism. As a result treatment of deep vein thrombosis can be done both in hospital and home setting with UFH, LMWH and VKA.
