Thrombolytic Treatment In Iliofemoral Deep Venous Thrombosis
Dr. Deniz BALCI,a Dr. Cüneyt KÖKSOYa
aGenel Cerrahi AD, Vasküler ve Endovasküler Cerrahi Birimi, Ankara Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, ANKARA Deep venous thrombosis is a major clinical problem having significant consequences namely pulmonary embolus in the short term and postthrombotic syndrome in the long term causing serious morbidity and mortality despite advances. The standard treatment is unfractioned or low molecular weight heparin followed by oral anticoagulants aiming to prevent and treat complications. It is an ongoing debate to apply a more aggresive approach to prevent major complications which may both be fatal or incapacitating. The use of thrombolytic therapy has played an important role in the management of both arterial and venous thrombotic conditions. It has potential advantages over anticoagulant theraphy. In this article, relevant clinical evidence and rationale in support of thrombolytic therapy in ileofemoral deep venous thrombosis are discussed. Keywords: Venous thrombosis, fibrinolytic agents, thrombolytic therapyTurkiye Klinikleri J Gen Surg-Special Topics 2008, 1(1):61-66
