aGenel Cerrahi AD, Vasküler ve Endovasküler Cerrahi Birimi, bAcil Tıp AD, Ankara Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, ANKARA Deep venous thrombosis is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. The current treatment strategy for deep venous thrombosis remains systemic anticoagulation to prevent worsening of acute symptoms, pulmonary embolism, and recurrent thromboembolic events. However, conservative therapy with anticoagulation alone is rarely efficient and sufficient in reducing clot burden to prevent post-thrombotic syndrome, particularly in iliofemoral systems. Most authors therefore recommend an aggressive treatment with rapid removal of the occluding thrombus i.g surgical or percutaneous mechanical thrombectomy. Keywords: Venous thrombectomy, deep venous thrombosis, iliofemoral veinTurkiye Klinikleri J Gen Surg-Special Topics 2008, 1(1):67-72
